Students in Catholic Social Teaching are required to complete 20 hours of service over the course of the semester. All service hours need to be completed at the same site. There are opportunities this semester to work with kids (NorthStar tutoring), to work with the elderly (Bingo at Rose Blumkin), to work with those experiencing poverty (First Presbyterian Food Pantry), or to work with people with disabilities (Camp Munroe). You may sign up for one of the following options:
Tutoring at NorthStar After School Program:
NorthStar Foundation is an after school program for boys, grades 4-10 in North Omaha. Prep volunteers will act as reading volunteers or homework helpers from 4-6pm any day after school. CST students will need to commit to 10 volunteer days in order to complete their 20 hour commitment. There will be an orientation on Tuesday, August 27th during your lunch period in the Criss Auditorium.

Camp Munroe is a recreational therapy program for kids with disabilities. Volunteers at Camp Munroe will do a variety of recreational activities such as games, swimming, arts and crafts, etc. Prep will volunteer with kids on six Saturday mornings from 9am until noon. Or students can volunteer with adults on 7 Thursday nights from 6:15 until 8:45pm. Volunteers also need to attend a 2 hour orientation at Camp Munroe prior to volunteering. Volunteers can sign up to volunteer during the first session (which will take place during the 1st quarter) or the second session (which will take place during the 2nd quarter).
If you want to volunteer during the first quarter, your orientation will be at Camp Munroe on Wednesday, Sept. 4th from 6-8pm. CLICK HERE for the volunteer packet to bring with you to your orientation. The Saturday morning camp will start on Sept. 7th and finish on Oct. 12th. The Thursday night adult program will start on Sept. 5th and finish on Oct. 17th.

Bingo at the Rose Blumkin Home
On Wednesday nights, Prep students help with bingo at the Rose Blumkin Home from 6:40pm until 8:15pm. Volunteers will need to fill out a volunteer application as soon as possible. After that application is submitted, there will be a short background check and an orientation. Then you can start volunteering. Volunteers will need to volunteer 12 nights over the course of the semester (plus the orientation) to complete 20 hours of service.
Thursday Afternoon Food Pantry at First Presbyterian Church
First Presbyterian Church runs a food pantry every Thursday afternoon. Prep students volunteer from 3:30-5:30pm, helping to re-stock shelves, distribute food, etc. Students in CST who volunteer at this site will need to make 10 visits to complete their 20 hours of service.
