Birdcage Named in Honor of Joseph G. Ries '78
Posted 11/29/2017 01:46PM

The Birdcage inside the Heider Center was the setting on Wednesday, November 29 as tribute was paid to alumnus and tremendous Prep fan Joe Ries ’78 through the naming of the Joseph G. Ries Birdcage.

During the naming ceremony attended by his father Dr. Jerry Ries, remarks were provided by Student Council Co-Presidents Max Doocy ’18 and Andrew Hoover ’18. Those remarks were followed by the unveiling of a wall plaque that describes what a committed fan Joe was of Prep athletics and the official designation of the space as the Joseph G. Ries Birdcage.

Even as a student challenged by muscular dystrophy, Joe was a constant presence at Prep games throughout his high school career. He passed all too soon in 1979, and may his spirit, enthusiasm and determination continue to inspire all those who cheer on the Junior Jays in the Joseph G. Ries Birdcage.
