There is so much to celebrate and be grateful for this week, beginning with Prep’s recognition as a 2020 National Blue Ribbon School. As one of only 50 private schools in the country to receive this distinction, it is a testament to the spirit of excellence that permeates our entire community and continues to flourish even in these trying times. I want to recognize in a special way the amazing dedication, creativity, professionalism, and passion of Prep’s faculty and staff whose selfless generosity is the foundation of our mission and the success of our students.

Our faith is at the heart of our mission and while things like the Blue Ribbon or our sports programs may dominate the headlines, we also want to take a moment to recognize that this weekend we have students engaged in their Junior Encounter Retreat, Sophomore Pilgrimage, and Kids Against Hunger community service. It has been a lot of work to reinvent all of these campus ministry programs and it is thanks again to the creativity and dedication of the mission-driven teachers we have at Prep that our students are able to have powerful opportunities to grow closer to God and to learn what it means to be a man for others.

New State Directed Health Measure

Earlier this week, the state’s chief medical officer, Dr. Anthone, issued a new directed health measure for the entire state. Among other things, it includes some changes in how local health departments will determine quarantine orders for cases that occur in classroom settings where everyone is wearing masks. Prep will continue to work closely with public health officials at the Douglas County Health Department to determine how to manage contact tracing and quarantine directives for any positive cases that occur in our community. If you have any questions, please contact our school nurse Katie Corrigan

Prep is Named 2020 Blue Ribbon School

Yesterday, the Department of Education announced that Prep is one of 50 non-public schools named a 2020 National Blue Ribbon School. This recognition underscores the school’s commitment to academic excellence and is an honor in which all of us can take pride.

Congratulations to our teachers and staff who deliver curriculum in compelling ways, in and out of the classroom. They serve as a daily example for our students as men and women for others. You can learn more about the award by reading Prep’s press release sent to the media.

Fully Remote Learning Option

Creighton Prep is aware that some families, for a variety of health-related reasons, may not be comfortable sending their son to school during this pandemic. The school continues to provide remote learning for students who prefer that option. The commitment for fully remote learning is generally for at least one full grading period (mid-quarter, quarter or semester). It is not intended as a short-term solution because of convenience, travel or other reason. If you are interested in the fully remote learning option, please contact your son’s counselor and review the details in this agreement. Please note that students in quarantine do not sign this agreement.

AP Students Registering for Exams Now

Current AP students are in the process of registering for exams next May, and registration fees are due in the High School Office by Thursday, October 30. Parents of AP students have been sent a separate email with more details.

Mid-Quarter Progress Reports Available Now

On Monday, we released mid-quarter progress reports on PowerSchool. To check these reports:

  • Log in to PowerSchool.

  • Click on Grade History at left.

  • You will see a grade, an effort grade and possibly other comments from teachers

If you have questions or concerns about grades, please contact your son’s teacher.

PowerSchool and Canvas are excellent resources for monitoring student progress. Creighton Prep expects parents are using these tools for this purpose. You can view your son’s grades at any time from the Grades and Attendance page in PowerSchool. Click on the actual grade for a breakdown of assignments. Canvas serves as a resource for what is going on in class.

PSAT Scheduling Updates

Due to social distancing, Creighton Prep will not be able to offer the PSAT 8/9 to freshmen on October 14 as originally planned. Only sophomores and juniors will test on this day. There will be no school for freshmen on October 14. Prep will offer an opportunity to take the PSAT 8/9 exam to freshmen on November 3 which is now a teacher workday. This is optional, not required. The PSAT 8/9 is a practice test to prepare students to take the PSAT their junior year. In the past Prep has used the test results to help us place students in courses as sophomores.

Please complete this form by September 28 to register your son for this test. Please contact Mr. Tom Reinhart if you have any questions.

Mother-Son Mass – Sunday, October 11

Like many other events, this year the Mother-Son Mass will look a little different. We will provide a safe environment at Prep with masks and social distancing required. Space for attendees will be somewhat limited. For those who choose not to attend in person, the event will be streamed online. You can get more details and register on our website.

Digital Textbooks & Apps Charged to FACTS Accounts

Look for an email invoice from FACTS for electronic textbooks and apps that were purchased by Prep and distributed to your son. The invoice will indicate each item, the amount charged and the date FACTS will process your payment. Contact Debbie Novotny with questions.

As Suicide Prevention Month comes to a close, we take a look into a critical aspect of prevention. Read more related to the ideas around prevention and how we can assist in reducing suicide. If you or your son needs any further information or assistance, please contact Kevin Kaminski.
