Prep Student in Need of Host Family

$500 Scholarship Available For a Freshman Student

Danny Poulos, a member of the Class of 2019, is giving back to Prep by creating the Danny H. Poulos III Leadership Scholarship. It will be available to the freshman student (Class of 2023) who writes the best answer to the following two questions in 500 words or less: 

  • What makes you a leader?
  • How will you continue your leadership at Creighton Prep?

Freshmen just need to email their answers to Advancement@CreightonPrep.org by January 31, and the winner will be announced on March 23. 


Volunteer Opportunities


Catholic Schools Week Service Project 

On February 1st, students from Prep and Marian will be working with Restoring Dignity to do a home makeover project for a Karenni refugee family living in Omaha. Campus Ministry is looking for volunteers to help load and unload the truck from 8-10 a.m. and volunteers to help set up the home from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Prep and Marian students will have lunch together with the family after cleaning, organizing and moving the furniture and household items for them. If your son would like to volunteer, please have him contact Dave Lawler in the Campus Ministry Office.

Help Make BASH Is Golden a Success


Bash Is Golden "Celebrating 50 Years of Building A Scholastic Heritage" will be held in the Heider Center at Creighton Prep on Saturday, April 25, just 92 days away as of Friday, January 24.

  • The monies raised during BASH are a key component in our ability to keep tuition affordable for everyone and to provide $2.5 million annually in financial assistance to approximately 52 percent of our students.

We look forward to seeing everyone who has registered for the Creighton Prep Father-Son Mass and Breakfast this Sunday, January 26 at 10 a.m.

The Rosary to Support Freshman Retreat – Thursday, February 6

The Prep community is cordially invited to the Rosary to Support Freshman Retreat on Thursday, February 6 at 6:15 p.m. at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church (6116 Dodge Street). Freshman parents should drop off their sons at Prep prior to attending. 

This beautiful and meaningful event intensifies the prayer by mentioning each student by name. It is a powerful way for parents to be involved in the retreat without actually being there. 

The Rosary to Support Freshman Retreat is organized by CP Parents Praying with St. Ignatius. If you have questions or would like to assist with the Rosary, please contact Jeanne Schulte.


Register for Mom Prom 2020 – Sunday, February 9

Register you and your son today for this 37th annual event that is a Creighton Prep tradition. Mom Prom 2020 “A Midwinter Night’s Dream” is also an opportunity for Prep mothers and sons to spend an evening together and raise money for the April post prom party.

Register for CP Trivia Night – Friday, February 21

Register your table of eight now for this fun annual event in the commons! (Cost: $240.)

  • Social hour at 6 p.m.; questions at 7 p.m.
  • Participants must be 21.
  • Festive tables and costumes highly encouraged but not required. (No decorations beyond the sides of the table or obscuring views of the podium.)
  • Bring your own food and beverages. (A small supply of beer, wine and soda will be available for purchase.)
  • Seating limited to the first 50 teams that have paid in full.

6th/7th Grade Pre-Entrance Exam – Saturday, February 22

Please remind prospective Prep students and their parents that the 6th/7th Grade Pre-Entrance Exam will take place on Saturday, February 22 at Creighton Prep. The cost is $10, and parents can register their sons and pay online HERE.

On the day of the exam, students should

  • Bring two #2 pencils (no calculators). 
  • Enter the building from the west parking lot. 
  • Arrive for check-in starting at 7:30 a.m. 

At 7:45 a.m., they will be directed to a classroom where testing will begin at 8 a.m. Parents can pick up students in the west parking lot starting at approximately 11:30 a.m.

Creighton Prep is proud to recognize alumni, coaches and supporters for outstanding contributions to the athletic program at the school. Their commitment, achievement and sense of sportsmanship set the standard for the young athletes who follow in their footsteps today.

CyberPatriots Win First and Second at State

Our varsity and JV CyberPatriot teams won first and second at the state competition in December. Saturday, they advance to the semifinal round finding and fixing cybersecurity vulnerabilities. Good luck.


Congratulations to Academic Decathlon

Congratulations to the Academic Decathlon team on winning their regional at Central over the weekend, where every member of the team medaled. Team members are: William Bolay, Dean Davis, Daniel Deras, Connor Gregg (top team scorer), Charlie Hough, Daniel Kleinsmith, Brian Martin, Daniel Meyer, Owen Morrow, Patrick Rogers Paul Szalewski and Elijah Warren. Special thanks go to managers Ryan Plambeck and Peter Szalewski. Your coaches are proud of how hard you competed this year, team.


Robotics Teams Advance to Super Qualifier

Congratulations to two of Creighton Prep’s FIRST Tech Challenge robotics teams for moving past the league meet and continuing on to the Iowa Super Qualifier in February. Additionally, Team 17111 represented by Major Rhotem, Joseph Romero and Mani Bakou won the "Recycle" award and competed in the final alliance matches.


Tom Beck '84 Named Midwest Section Swim Coach of the Year

Head Swim and Dive Coach Tom Beck ’84 was named by the National Federation of High Schools as the Midwest Section Swim Coach of the Year for 2018-19. Congratulations and well-deserved!


Congressional App Challenge Winners

Congressman Don Bacon visited Creighton Prep to congratulate the students who won the 2019 Congressional App Challenge for Nebraska’s second district. The congressman presented senior Ben Hall and juniors Cian Weekly and Kevin Prososki with certificates and invited them to the annual House of Code ceremony held at the nation’s capital in the spring. 

While at Prep, Congressman Bacon also visited with AP Government students. He shared some political insights and fielded topical questions from them.


Film Students’ Work Selected for Omaha Film Festival 

Seniors Cooper Watkins, Evan Eggers, and Gabriel Foreman-Albers collaborated on a short western film titled "The Last Showdown" that was selected by the Omaha Film Festival. Their film, which was one of 90 chosen to be screened, will be shown during the festival from March 3-8, 2020 at Aksarben Cinema in Omaha.


Voting Begins Monday in the Spirit 102.7 FM Superstar Catholic School Contest

Vote for Creighton Prep in the annual Superstar Catholic School Contest presented by Spirit Catholic Radio from January 27 through February 8. You have two weeks to vote online at spiritcatholicradio.com/superstar. Last year Prep won in the Class A high school category. Let’s continue the winning tradition.

PSAT Testing for Freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors – Wednesday, October 16

Students must report to their Community Period room by 8 a.m. that day with two #2 pencils. No mechanical pencils are allowed, but they are allowed to use a calculator during some portions of the exam. It will conclude at 11:45 a.m.

Students received preparation materials in their Community Periods earlier in the month.


Quarter Progress Reports Available Thursday, October 17

These reports, which note academic grades, effort grades and other general comments about your son’s progress, will be available on PowerSchool by the end of that day.

If you need help accessing PowerSchool, please contact the High School Office.

There is still plenty of time for improvement and growth. These reports are a snapshot at this point in the semester and are not recorded on transcripts.

If your son is struggling in any way, let his teachers and counselor know of your questions and concerns, and encourage him to see his teachers for help or talk with his counselor.


Parent-Teacher Conferences – October 24-25 

These five-minute conferences are opportunities for brief check-ins on your son’s progress. Plan to meet your son’s teachers in the Heider Center on either the 24th from 5-8 p.m. on the 25th from 9 a.m-12 p.m. The Friday morning session tends to be less crowded.

Volunteer Opportunities


Help with Parent-Teacher Conferences Goodie Bags for Prep Faculty

The Prep Moms organization needs donations for goodie bags that will be given to the Prep faculty. Each bag will contain items such as bottled water, candy, a granola bar, fresh fruit and a $10 Starbucks gift card.

Volunteer for BASH 2020

Commit now to be one of the 500 volunteers who will make our 50th BASH fundraiser a success on Saturday, April 25 for the students who rely on financial assistance to attend Prep. 

Soon, we’ll need lots of parents to help with acquiring auction items. Later in January, to sell raffle tickets, help with decorations and write descriptions for the catalog. In late April, to set up auction items, serve drinks at the event, and help with tear-down and cleanup

This is a great way to give back to Prep and meet great people!


Sign up for Eucharistic Adoration

One Friday a month, parents are invited to the Skinner Chapel for Eucharistic Adoration from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Anyone is welcome to volunteer for an “hour of power” before the Blessed Sacrament. Sign up today! 

On those days, park in the east lot and enter through the Administration entrance then sign in at the reception desk. The receptionist will direct you to the chapel.

Thank you for considering to serve the Prep students and the faculty and staff in this way.


Events – October 12-18


Homecoming Dance for Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors – Tomorrow

The Student Council will host the homecoming dance from 8:30-11:30 p.m. in the commons. The theme is Harry Potter. Cost: $20 for a single-person ticket or $30 for a two-person ticket if purchased in advance. At the door of the dance, a single-person ticket costs $30 and a two-person ticket costs $40.

Today, tickets are on sale in two locations:

  • Student Activities Office (Room 002) until 5 p.m.
  • Switchboard (near the Administration entrance) until 2:45 p.m.

Cash, debit/credit card or check accepted for payment. 

  • Checks should be payable to Creighton Prep. 
  • Debit/credit card payment is available in the Student Activities Office. 
  • Tickets purchased online must be picked up in the Student Activities Office.

Sophomores, juniors and seniors from Marian, Mercy, and Duchesne can attend the dance without a Prep host and purchase a single-person ticket at any of the three locations.

Students and their guests should review the Homecoming Dress Code and Behavior Guidelines prior to the dance. Please also see responses to Frequently Asked Questions.


Omaha National College Fair – Sunday, October 13

The National Association for College Admissions Counseling is hosting the fair at the CHI Health Center in downtown Omaha from 1-4 p.m. Admission is free.

Students should register here and print a bar code ahead of time.


College Admissions Counselor Visits – October 14-18

Interested juniors and seniors need to notify their teachers in advance that they will be missing class. They are also responsible for the material covered while they are away from class.

CP Parents Praying with St. Ignatius Meeting and Jim Bopp – Monday, October 14

Join the CP PPWI group from 6:45 to 8:30 p.m. in Room 118. Director of Adult Spirituality, Fr. Kevin Schneider, SJ, will direct the meeting, and Head of School Jim Bopp will be the guest speaker. All CP parents are welcome!

The group meets on the second Monday of each month to pray the Spiritual Exercises and learn about Ignatian spirituality and how to live an Ignatian retreat each day.


Prep Moms Fall Social – Wednesday, October 16

All parents of sons currently attending Prep are invited. Meet other parents and reunite with friends!

  • 7-9 p.m. in the commons
  • Wine, appetizers and desserts
  • Casual dress

7th Annual CP Corporate Trap Shoot – Saturday, October 19

The annual corporate fundraiser for the CP trap program will also include a raffle and auction items. Sponsorship packages are available, too. Cost is $695 per five-person team.

Moms Gone Shopping Trip – Thursday, October 24

Are you looking for a fall day away? This shopping trip has been a hit with Prep moms for years, and is a great way to meet new friends while supporting the school. Originally sold as an eBASH item in the spring, there are still some spaces available. Reserve yours today! $125 per person.


Fall Band Concert – Tuesday, November 5

The Creighton Prep Concert Band invites you to “One Giant Leap,” their fall concert program in the commons starting at 7 p.m. Musical selections will tell the story of America's race to the moon and will include works by composers Erik Morales, Ola Gjielo and Michael Sweeney, and the band Led Zeppelin.

Tennis Wins Metro Title, Six Named to All-Academic Team

Congratulations to the tennis team on their win at the Metro Conference championships on Thursday. Highlights included victories by Gavin Forster at No. 2 singles and by Daniel Kowal and Josh Morales at No.2 doubles.

Six team members were also named to the Metro All-Academic team. Congratulations, Andrew Doehner, Gavin Forster, Daniel Kowal, Mac Nelson, Josh Morales and Nathan Ramachandran. The honor goes to current sophomores, juniors and seniors who carry a cumulative 3.5 GPA, are members or this year's or last year's tournament teams, and are positive contributors to their teams.

“At Prep, we have outstanding athletes, but we emphasize the student part of student-athlete and these tennis players are a great example of that,” said Coach Kowal.
