THE APRIL 3RD PARENT PULSE

WEEKLY UPDATE FROM HEAD OF SCHOOL, JIM BOPP

Thank you to all the parents who took time to offer feedback through last week’s survey on Prep’s transition to online learning. Your reflections have been very helpful to us as we continue to make adjustments. They were also a source of inspiration and consolation for all of us as we continue our efforts to provide our students with the best experience of community, spiritual formation, and academic advancement possible.

A clear source of concern to the community is the status of our graduation ceremony. All seniors and their parents should have received an email with a video update from Fr. Neitzke, SJ, that clarifies our intention to hold a traditional in-person baccalaureate mass and commencement ceremony for all seniors and their families once circumstances allow.

Unfortunately, we will not be able to hold a prom or post-prom this school year. However, we are making plans to host a major celebration for all Prep students, including those from the Class of 2020, and students from the metro Catholic high schools once such gatherings are permitted.

Finally, a reminder that Prep will celebrate Holy Week and Easter by taking a break from all classes and activities beginning next Thursday, April 9, through the following Monday, April 13. You can find the full schedule for the remainder of the school year here.

COVID-19 AND ONLINE LEARNING UPDATES

NSAA Cancels Spring Sports Message from Dan Schinzel, Director of Athletics

All remaining NSAA activity practices and competitions, including district and state competitions, have been cancelled for this school year. These cancelations are part of a new Directed Health Measure issued by Governor Ricketts. In addition, Creighton Prep's athletic facilities will continue to be closed and off-limits for use.

We understand that the loss of the spring sports season impacts not only the athletes and coaches who are participating but also all of the students, parents and alumni who follow and support our teams. The news is especially hard for the seniors who will not be able to represent Prep for one last season.

Athletics at Prep plays an important role in helping form and strengthen our sense of community and that is something we certainly need during challenging times. It is our hope that following the state and local health department directives will help ensure NSAA activities will return to a normal schedule for the fall season.

Lastly, our spring coaches at all levels have reached out to their team members with this information. Additionally, we will be granting all varsity athletes their varsity letters and are working on a way to distribute those in the near future. Look for an email from Dan Schinzel about how this process will work.

COVID-19 and Managing Our Worries and Anxiety

In his latest article, Kevin Kaminski, Prep’s mental health practitioner, offers four ways to assist in managing worry and hopefully lessen the potential for more significant anxiety levels. If your son is struggling emotionally, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Kevin to set up a video conferencing appointment for him.
