Parent-Teacher Conferences – October 18-19
Please note that Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Thursday evening, October 18 from 5 to 8 p.m. and Friday morning, October 19 from 9 a.m. to noon in the Heider Center. Prep does not mail home progress reports or report cards. Parents can view their son’s progress report by following these steps:
- Click HERE to reach the PowerSchool login page.
- Log in to PowerSchool.
- From the menu on the left, select Grade History.
- Select the 2018-2019 tab.
- Use the PRINTER icon in the upper right to print your student’s progress report.
PLEASE BE SURE TO PRINT A COPY OF THE REPORT AND BRING IT TO PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES.
PARENTS MAY ENTER THE BUILDING THROUGH THE HEIDER CENTER ENTRANCE FROM THE EAST PARKING LOT OR THE MAIN WEST ENTRANCE TO THE SCHOOL, ADJACENT TO THE WEST PARKING LOT.
ALL TEACHERS WILL BE LOCATED IN THE HEIDER CENTER, SEATED IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER, AND ALL COUNSELORS WILL BE LOCATED IN THE UPPER TRACK AREA.
Parent-Teacher Conferences help parents and teachers join in a partnership to further your son’s education.
Parent conferences do not provide the time for in-depth interaction, so we ask that you keep your visit with each teacher to five minutes. If you receive valuable insight and you would like to pursue it or if more time is necessary, make an appointment with the teacher for a future visit or phone call. Some the items below may help focus each conference:
- Let your son know that you are going to visit his teachers. Find out if there is something he would like you to ask or tell the teacher.
- Ask your son to tell you about each of his classes. Look at your son’s notebooks and assignments. This may give you a perspective that will make the teacher’s comments more meaningful.
- Don’t hesitate to ask about specific points: behavior, homework, class participation, work habits, basic skills, social interaction, attendance, tests, attitude, morale, etc.
- Focus on one or two specific points. The goal of the conference is to identify problems (if there are any), not to necessarily solve them at that time.
- Conferences are most successful when parents summarize their findings, with a course of action with their son, and follow up on his adherence to that plan. Ask your son to assess his own strengths and weaknesses. What is he going to do about what his teachers have said? Make a plan, perhaps a contract, and follow it.
Our hope is that one or two of these suggestions will help to make your teacher conferences a more effective and valuable experience for you and a more enjoyable event for all the Prep parents and teachers.
The Jay Mart will also be open for Parent-Teacher Conferences on Thursday afternoon/evening from 4:30-8 p.m. and Friday morning from 8:30 a.m.-12 p.m. The store is located in the Smith Atrium just outside the Heider Center.
