Student Studying in the Lannon Learning Commons

Curriculum and Courses

Creighton Preparatory School's commitment to educational excellence is shaped by the spirituality and pedagogical tradition of the Society of Jesus, founded in 1540 by St. Ignatius Loyola. Creighton Prep strives to educate the whole person: intellectual, religious, social, emotional and physical. Faculty and administration work to ensure that each student has an opportunity to meet his learning needs.

The course of study provides a balanced and traditional curriculum of preparation for college studies. While even the best students will be challenged, our graduates find themselves prepared to enter, compete and succeed in college.

There are many academic paths through Prep, and the goal is for each student to be challenged as he develops his gifts.

ADVANCED Courses

Creighton Prep offers dual enrollment, Advanced Placement and honors level opportunities to students who are ready for the challenge of a more rigorous course of study. Reviewing the Course Catalog is the best way to get a feel for the many options to develop a student's intellectual gifts at whatever level is most appropriate for his ability.

Dual Enrollment Courses

Prep students may earn college credit with dual enrollment through three area universities: Creighton University, Metropolitan Community College and the University of Nebraska Omaha. Approximately 25 dual enrollment courses from nearly all subject areas are available each school year. These courses are taught by Creighton Prep faculty who help students bridge their high school experience with this college curriculum. Beyond preparation for college, these courses often transfer to a the college or university of a graduate's choice.

Advanced Placement (AP) Courses

AP courses are similar to dual enrollment courses except credit is earned through a summative assessment (usually an exam) in May. Like dual enrollment, the curriculum can be demanding, but, with successful completion of the exam in May, students often earn college credit. Creighton Prep offers approximately 25 AP courses, once again in nearly all subject areas.

Honors Courses

While honors courses generally do not provide college credit, they do add breadth and depth to learning for students who are ready for more. Creighton Prep offers many honors courses in most subject areas from freshman through senior year. In many cases, freshman take regular level classes and then, after gaining confidence with their success, move to some honors courses as sophomores. There are many academic paths through Prep, and the goal is for each student to be challenged as he develops his gifts.

STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES

We also offer support for students to help them succeed in the classroom. Whether it's a student who struggles with executive functioning skills or a high-achiever with a learning issue, Creighton Prep is committed to helping all of our students with their individual learning needs through our Student Support Services program.
