April 12, 2017
Dear Incoming Freshmen and Families:
It is my pleasure to write to you and welcome you into the Creighton Prep community! We are thrilled to begin working with you toward the Prep mission, which is “to form men of faith, scholarship, leadership, and service in the Catholic and Jesuit tradition.” Specifically, I would like to extend an invitation into the Creighton Prep football program.
I firmly believe that high school athletics provide a vehicle for educating student-athletes in valuable life lessons. Football teaches personal responsibility, self-control, teamwork, and mental and emotional endurance. Additionally, the freshman football team provides an immediate opportunity for our students to experience the brotherhood they will hopefully continue to develop over four years at Creighton Prep.
The Creighton Prep football program has enjoyed much success for over a century. Our success stems from the hard work and dedication of players and coaches committed to achieving team goals. We look forward to the 2017 season and the opportunity to renew that tradition under our new Varsity Head Coach Tim Johnk. I am honored to serve as the Head Coach of the Freshman Football team. I am a 2002 graduate of Prep, and was blessed to play under Coach Tom Jaworski, as well as my predecessor as Freshman Head Coach Mike Culver. I am committed to serving our student athletes to the best of my ability under the Jesuit charism cura personalis, or “care of the whole person.”
You may have already received notice of helmet-sizing on Wednesday, April 26 at 6:30 p.m. in the Sullivan Center at Prep. We look forward to seeing you there!
Please visit Creighton Prep’s website and look for “Incoming Freshman Information” within the “Preparing for School” tab on the “School Life” page. This is where you can find most of the information you may seek.
Additionally, this summer, we will offer some exciting opportunities to get a head start in the Prep football program:
- Summer lifting and conditioning hours for freshmen run from 8-10 a.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday starting Thursday, June 1. Students will spend one hour on the field and one hour in the weight room. This time is open for all freshmen, but is focused on football activities and will be organized by football coaches. The last day will be Tuesday, August 1, with equipment checkout for freshmen football players to follow.
- July 24-26: We will host the annual Freshman Football Camp for students entering 9th grade. It will run from 6-8 p.m. each day. This camp will be organized by the freshman coaching staff and will serve as an introduction before the first week of practice begins. This camp is non-contact and the focus will be on technique and terminology, as well as fun and developing friendships. All incoming freshmen intending to play football are strongly recommended to attend, but we understand if families have planned vacations for that week. There is no cost for this optional camp, and there is no registration. Simply show up on the 24th!
- August 1: Freshman football equipment checkout and baseline concussion testing at 10 a.m. You should plan to drop your son off and come back to get him when we finish. Please bring a $30 check made out to Creighton Prep that will cover equipment costs. Enter through the Heider Center lower doors.
Thank you for taking the time to read over this information, and please place all of the above dates on your calendar. We are excited for the 2017 season and the upcoming school year. Welcome to Prep!
