What's in the library?

Print Resources: Currently there are approximately 10,600 books in the collection including over 800 reference books. We also subscribe to 32 current magazines.  Newspaper subscriptions include the Omaha World Herald, U.S.A. Today, Wall Street Journal, U.S. Catholic Reporter, and The Catholic Voice.

Electronic Resources:  Creighton Prep School Library subscribes to a number of online database services. We pay a subscription price supported by the Nebraska Library Commission allowing only members of the Prep community access to these services at school or at home. Links are available through Databases at the left of this page. Our collection of books and video materials can be accessed on an automated card catalog system using Follett Software.

Other Media Resources: A new addition to the library is an audio book collection with 83 volumes.  Our video and DVD collection of approximately 400 items are available to faculty.  Paul Serrato, a Creighton Prep graduate, has contributed several works to our music library.

What are the policies?

Instructional Program: The library program is based on ALA (American Library Association) and AECT (Association for Educational Communications and Technology) Nine Information Literacy Standards for Student Learning.  Freshman entering Prep will go through library orientation within the Freshmen Advising program.  Throughout the year all freshmen will be involved in an integrated library course of instruction partnering with English and World History classes. One section of the course will be on the (Ignation process of research) based on the IPP.  Also included in the course is a session on evaluating free web sites.  A final part of the course involves instruction on how to use Prep's subscription services databases.  Sophomore, junior, and senior students will develop applied research skills in various subject disciplines working collaboratively with teachers and library faculty.

Mission Statement:  The mission of the library is to be an integral part of the educational program in the Jesuit tradition, fostering literacy and empowering students to become effective users of ideas and information.
